Latte Art Virtual Showdown
Terms & Conditions
- Objective: The White Whale Virtual Latte Art Showdown aims to create a fun and engaging event for baristas who serve White Whale Coffee as part of their employment or business.
- Eligibility: Open to employees and business owners whose establishments purchase coffee beans from White Whale Coffee Roasters. Participants must be actively employed or own their business from the start to the end of the competition.
- How to Enter: To enter, submit a video (maximum 60 seconds) clearly showing the participant pouring the latte art. The video should zoom in at the end, pausing to showcase the finished design. Additionally, include an overhead (aerial) photo of the latte art taken approximately 20-30 cm above the cup. Photos cannot be edited or touched up in any way.
- Designs: for this competition, we are focusing on the classic pillars of latte art - the heart, tulip, rosetta, and swan. All submissions should be focused on one of these four core designs.
- Entry Fee: There is no entry fee. Each participant may submit only one entry.
- Submission Deadline: Entries must be sent by private message to the White Whale Instagram page @whitewhale_cairns by Wednesday 4 December 2024. Judging will occur on Friday 6 December 2024, and the winner will be announced at 1:00 pm. Prizes will be distributed the following week.
- Judging Criteria: Latte art will be judged on clarity, symmetry, difficulty, flow, colour, size and positioning, and overall appearance. Only espresso and milk are allowed. See below for additional judging details.
- Final Decision: All judging decisions are final and non-appealable.
- White Whale employees: employees of White Whale Coffee Roasters are not permitted to enter.
- Employer Permissions: Participants must ensure they receive full permission from business owner and/or manager for use of milk, coffee, and other resources related to their entry.
- Prizes: Cash prize and White Whale Tote Bag will be awarded to the entrant; Upstock credit to be used by business/cafe owner to purchase stock from White Whale at their discretion.
- Media Consent: By participating, entrants consent to the use of their image and competition results in White Whale’s promotional materials.
- Liability: White Whale Coffee Roasters is not responsible for any injuries, damages, or losses that may occur during the competition.

Judging Criteria
Four judges will score your submission using the following criteria (25pts). These scores will be combined for a final score out of a possible 100pts.
Clarity: The design should be sharp, with clean edges and no blurring. (5)
Colour: The mix of milk and coffee should create clear contrasting colours. (5)
Symmetry: The pattern should look balanced and even on both sides. (5)
Size & Position: The design should be centred and fit well in the cup. (5)
Overall Look: It should be visually appealing and catch the eye. (5)
