OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH RRF

In 2019, White Whale Coffee Roasters proudly partnered with the Resilient Reefs Foundation (formally the Reef Restoration Foundation) to support the restoration and protection of our national treasure, The Great Barrier Reef.

Following two mass coral bleaching events and a major cyclone that devastated over two-thirds of the Reef, the RRF established the Great Barrier Reef's first ocean-based coral nurseries.

The regenerative nursery program was designed to mimic natural processes, with small cuttings of healthy corals that displayed higher levels of resilience during the 2016 and 2017 bleaching events attached to coral tree frames. Through this program, the RRF hoped that the recovery of damaged reefs could not only be accelerated, but that these reefs would also demonstrate greater resilience to future bleaching and natural events.

As part of our ongoing partnership with the Resilient Reefs Foundation, White Whale donates 1% of every coffee bean sale to directly support a healthier and more reslient Great Barrier Reef. So far, we’ve contributed over $100,000—and we’re just getting started.

COFFEE THAT DOES GOOD

Today, the RRF works across three sites that are accessed from the port of Cairns. The original site at Fitzroy Island is dedicated to R&D, while nurseries at Hastings Reef and Moore Reef allows the team to produce additional coral larvae at a large scale.

The RRF have stayed true to their original community-based model in the belief that a groundswell of community action creates a snowball effect that can’t be ignored.

We couldn't be prouder to be part of the community behind them.
